Taking things literally

I gave each of the boys their very own Nestle Crunch Bar as a token of mommy love.  As they were devouring their precious little treasures, they ran up to me.

Tank (grinning from ear to ear):  Hey mommy, we can spell "Hollywood"!

(jumps up and down and then looks over at his co-conspirator)

Dash (ever so proudly):  H-O-L-L-Y-W-O-O-D!!!!!

Me: (staring at them looking very confused)

Tank:  That means we win $10,000!!!

Me:  Huh?

Tank:  Okay, do you think it will at least get us into the semi-finals?

They both stood there eagerly awaiting my answer.  A look of hope on their sweet, chocolate covered faces.  I, however, was still confused.

Then it hit me!  I looked at the wrapper and wouldn't you know it...  On the front of each wrapper it said:

Collect & Win!
American Idol
Spell GO TO HOLLYWOOD
and you could go to the FINALE!

Okay, now *I* was disappointed too!  It's hard to dash the dreams of such little guys, especially when it comes to feats of spelling.

Now I'm still trying to figure out where the $10,000 idea came into play...

Question:  How do you feel about easy money?

I have a friend who is dead set against it.  Personally, I don't like it much and think it doesn't do people much good, especially in the long-run.  Semi-easy money... that could be fun, no?  But in smaller amounts.

Honestly, I would NEVER want to win the lottery!  Waaaay too much pressure and trust issues.  I have nothing to fear though since I have zero chances of winning.  Might as well go driving down the street throwing dollar bills out the window...

(And to those who choose to participate in said activities-- you know who you are-- this is not a rant or lecture personally directed towards you). :-)

Your boys are so funny! I'm on the other side of the lotto thing. Although I very rarely buy tickets I would love to win! We would travel the world, build a great big house and be able to spend all the time together that we can't now because my husband has to work. Since it's never going to happen I never think about the negatives of it.

About three years ago we won an SUV. It was a huge blessing. We sold it and paid off our van, all of our credit card bills and had money left over to stick away. The only thing is, since we live in a small town, absolutely everybody knows about it, everyone knows who we are. Oh well, it was fun and pretty exciting too.

How sad for your boys. :( I think you should do a gift certificate worth 10,000 mommy hugs or something and give it to them.

Did you ever read my 'God played the lotto for me' post? It's in my archive from Sept 17th....and true story....I had never purchased a lotto ticket, but I got a couple coupons for a FREE try. I thought, well, I could use a coupon.....that way I'm not supporting it with my family money.....

and I won

$1,000!!!!!! Wooohoooo God. So, hey, it was easy money, and it felt G-O-O-D. ('cause I knew it was from Him)

How darling! Your children are SO cute!!! How horribly disappointing for them, though!!!!

My hubby is always talking about "winning the lottery". I just roll my eyes and say, "Yes, honey." The chances are mighty slim, but he gets a big thrill out of thinking about "what if". I'm more realistic. I wouldn't mind a little bit of "found money", though!! It would be nice to fix up my house a bit and do some other things like that.

I turned on my RSS feed - I had no idea that was there or what it was!! Thanks for educating me, dear friend!! I need help!!

Oh! I put the most scrumptious recipe on my blog this morning! You've got to try it sometime and let me know what you think! I got rave reviews from my family this morning when I made it!

I don't care for easy money either, and 10,000,000 dollars would send me over the edge. My husband and I once got into an *intense* discussion when I told him that if I ever won a lot of money, I'd give every penny away. LOL Poor guy. It's a good thing I don't gamble so that we never have to worry about trying to work our way thru that scenario.

i'd actually have to buy a lottery ticket to win and i've never done that. but say i just had to write my name on a piece of paper (free paper) and be entered to win something. 1000 or 10,000 or such... i'd be pleased as punch. i'd pass over my 10 % to God and a little extra for our church's building fund and pay off a vehicle or something.

Hey, Marsha! Yes, it definitely fills a 9x11 (or 12) pan. It doesn't seem like it when you put it all in there - seems shallow - but the egg mixture puffs up as it cooks and it needs that big of a pan. For a huge group, you could use a bigger pan and just adjust your recipe accordingly. I had to laugh because it says it serves 8-10 people. Not in my house!! My three guys ate almost the whole thing! There was like this tiny container left over. With your small guys, you probably won't have that problem - just wait until they're teenagers!!! LOL Hope you enjoy it!

Your poor kiddos are just too smart for their own good! I would hate to have to break the news to them.I'm not a lottoplayer either, but some weeks ago someone at work put three tickets into my mail box and I won five dollars. I kept the ticket in my car and then last week our car got broken into to (Some wife forgot to lock the car before coming into the house) and both it and my husband's IPOD adaptor were gone. Five dollars?! The funny thing is that the left my husband's CD's and the gift card that I got for Christmas. I guess it just wasn't where they like to shop.

I already have my plans for how to divy up the money. Just can't wait to win!!!

Is it bad that I don't usually hope I win the lotto but that Dad does? The way he has it divied (sp?) up we get some of it. So I get some money but don't have to worry about the problems that come with winning it. Hee hee.

I changed the RSS feed settings on my site. I'm still learning so I'm not sure what it does or how I could get it to be a good thing for my site. Tips?

So funny and yet so sad for your boys... What a dissapointment!

I would love to win the lotto... I just think about all of the people who I could help with my winnings. Of course, I would have to play to win, and I just don't.

Anywho, my RSS fee is on. I don't know why it wouldn't be working...

Just had to say, I completely agree with you. I was convicted a few years ago by the verse, "an inheritance gained quickly in the beginning will not be blessed in the end". Needless to say, no more lottery tickets for me. Not that I ever won... Maybe that is why it was so easy for me to give it up!
