Boys and string

Now, don't let this picture of two innocent little boys fool you.  They are in reality superhero mechanical engineers!  Even as I type, they are creating a massive amount of "traps" throughout the house to catch any bad guys.  And all I did was give them a big ball of yarn and some scissors to cut it with (hopefully that's all they'll cut!).  What is it about boys/men and the love of string???

I'll be walking through Home Depot with dh and he'll see this big thing of string and say "Oh!  I should get this big thing of string!!!"  And when I laugh at him, he looks at me and says that I'll appreciate it one day when that string comes in handy.  Since then, we've used that dusty ball of string for only one or two purposes...and boy, did he ever GLOAT about it!  "You were laughing at me then...but you're glad I got that string now, aren't you?!"   So I just sigh and  at him.  Yup, he's really just a kid in a man's body...that's why I love him-- he really balances out the overly-serious me...

Now back to the subject of my fortress...I will give the little boys a little credit though.  While I can barely walk through the house with these snares all about, at least they are not following the footsteps of my little brother.  He and his friend John used to make similar traps with string all across the room but put TACKS and PINS on the floor!  So if they fell or tripped they'd get hurt.   What weirdos...I guess they watched too much Kung Fu theatre or something.

What handsome fellas you have there, dear Marsha! They're looking pretty "angelic". ;) Let us know if they catch the bad guys. LOL!

I had to laugh about your dh being a kid in a man's body. I can SO relate. With my dh it isn't string, but PLAYING at the table! If there is a straw wrapper to shoot at someone, he will find it. It's hard to teach table manners when the "Daddy" is instigating PLAY (and ummm...burps)....

Hey Marsha, Marsha, Marsha! I want to know HOW you add all that neat stuff to the side of your blog. I would love to put the books the boys and I are reading on the side of my blog and I just don't know how. :( Can you help this technologically challenged cyber friend? Pretty please?

LOLOL I am just tickled by your blog! My boys are SO much the same way! Without the tacks or pins - like your brothers!! LOL Not that they wouldn't have thought of that - they would just know Mom would be VERY upset if they did this because I would be the one who would step on one!! LOL My boys are teenagers but if I gave them string they would come of with something like this too!! I wouldn't trade my boys for anything, though. I always wanted boys and am so blessed by them!

Hope you're enjoying your books. I went to two thrift stores yesterday and found some GREAT books! One of the thrift stores had the books for 25 cents and 50 cents! Wonderful deals. Now, I have to go through the book shelf again and figure out what to keep and what to give away - that's the hard part. I have to do it, though, so I can find room for the new stuff!!

Take care and God Bless!!

Hi Marsha,

What a wonderful thing your boys are doing. I sure hope that they had fun, and maybe caught some "bad robbers" after all. I like to hear some of the things that your boys do, as I have my 9 yr son, and my 2 yr old son, and that is all....the rest are all girls and I can never figure out what to have my son do, when he says he is bored. He has play dates on a weekly basis with a friend and younger brother. Last week the other mom had them do a clue hunt. So my son wants to do that with the boys here at our house today. HMMM so I have to help him come up with ideas and clues for that. Then we have dinner together. The boys suggested --or told us after we asked--that they liked nachos--so we are going to fry up some flour tortillas and have nachos tonight.---Oh fun!

My husband is out of town on buisness so it is me home with our 5 kids plus 2 more! AHHHH--wish me luck! Next time they come over I will give them a ball of string. LOL --as long as they don't tie up anyone we should be ok--right? LOL

Have a good day!

What is it with the STRING?! Just last wknd., as I was doing the quick clean-up for company, I had to ask Nathan to "Please go around and untie/cut all of these STRINGS off of the chairs, PLEASE!" He AND his sister are always tieing up some poor GIJoe or stuffed animal in all sorts of precarious positions on our furniture. It's hilarious! But my hubby, well, he's graduated to air compressor hoses, which are lately forever strewn across our hallway, breezeway or dining room floor, due to ongoing projects around here, the latest being putting up crown molding... But yeah, we've drawers of oodles of string and ropes here too. When I tried to throw some away last room cleaning session, I was met with cries of "NO, we NEED that for our games!" LOL! One day we'll truly miss all the excitement!
