Perspective on Hurricane Katrina

Dear friends and fellow bloggers,

Here is a great perspective by Lori Seaborg on hurricane Katrina.  Most of the news we are getting here in Houston is about New Orleans.  But there are many, many more people that have been devastated by Katrina!

Please continue to pray for these people.  And if you have the means, do something tangible such as donating your time, money, food, or clothing to those in need.

God bless you,

Marsha

My son's best idea on how to help the hurricane victims

I was just talking to my 6yo about the hurricane victims.  I asked him to think about the best way we can help these people.

My smart, sweet son looked at me and said, "Mommy, we can pray for these people.  And we can also ask God to save them.  That's what we can do."

Otherwise complicated situations are so simplified by children.  They think a lot more clearly than we do, don't they?

Packing for my trip

Okay, that sounded a little funny.   What I meant was that I am packing my suitcase for my trip to Korea!

I leave Wednesday morning for Tokyo and then will fly on to Pusan from there.  My mom and one of my sisters is going with me.  I am very, very, very excited!  I was born in South Korea but have not been back since my family moved to the states almost 25 years ago.

The kiddos will spend 2 days with dh and then off to his folks for 4 days while he's working.  I can't imagine being away for 6 whole days!  No dh, no kids, no worries!  Well, I'm sure I'll find something to worry about.  We always do that as mommies, don't we?

It's funny what we bring as gifts sometimes.  We are bringing lots of MAC makeup (since my sis works for them in NYC) and lots of vitamins-- Glucosamine Chondroitin to be exact.  Apparently you never quite know what's really in a vitamin over there.   When I visit my sis in NYC, I go to shop for clothes and shoes.  When she visits me here in TX, she hits the Wal-mart for reasonably priced deodorant, toothpaste and shampoos!

I'll have my laptop with me so I may or may not post an update.  If not, I'll definitely catch up on all of your blogs when I get back home.

Have a great week, ya'll!  Or is it y'all???

Strength for today

For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

I Peter 3:12,13

Don't you just LOVE God's promises to us?!  And I am so thankful that He gave us His word in such a poetic and beautiful form!

Picture of my entire family!

This was taken after my dad's 60th birthday party this past weekend.  I grew up in a family of 4 girls and 1 boy.  Can you guess which one is me?  I think we all look very different but we've been mistaken as twins, triplets and even more before.

Happy Birthday, Dash!

Today my baby is 6 years old!

I can't believe how fast the years have gone by...before I know it, he'll be 16 (eek!).  He is such a good boy-- so helpful, funny and my little superhero!  Oh and he is a fabulous reader!

Unfortunately, I have to go out of town today and leave the boys with daddy.  But we are having a big Incredibles birthday party for him on Friday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DASH!!!

Lots on my mind

For some reason, I am quite overwhelmed right now.  But after some heart-felt prayer, I am beginning to feel God's peace...the kind that passeth all understanding.   I am so thankful for God's Word to guide me!  Here is what He has shown me tonight.

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

~Isaiah 43:2

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

~Isaiah 40:31

Humble yourselves therefore unto the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

~I Peter 5:6,7

TAG

1. Where is your favorite place on earth?

At home with my family and in the strong arms of my dh

2. Do you run a home business, and if yes, then what is it you do?

www.thegrocerygame.com for a couple of stores in TX and LA

3. What are some lessons in life you had to learn the hard way?

Your friends, good or bad, really do influence your thoughts, attitudes and actions.  When things get gray where they used to be black and white, it's time to get some new friends and go back to God's Word!

4. As a parent, what is the one thing you are (or would be) happiest to see in your children?

For them to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and to live a life serving God with all their heart.

5. Who do you most consider to be your role model, the person you most want to be like?

A combination of my mom and dad.  It's funny how when you have them separate they have their strengths and weaknesses...but put them together as ONE, and they are so extra amazing!

6. What is the greatest blessing you have gained from home schooling?

Closeness with my children b/c you can't have quality time without there being quantity time as well.  And what a blessing to see that little light bulb go off in their heads, especially when they figure out how to read!

7. What is a favorite quote, motto or verse of yours?

Philippians 4:13 ~"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

8. If you were not a homeschooling mom/wife/homemaker, what do you think you would be?

A very relaxed mom/wife/homemaker! LOL

 9. If you are married, where were you when you first saw your spouse and what was the first thought in your head?

The federal building in Dallas when we were taking the Air Force Officer Qualification Test.  I just thought that he seemed so confident and strong...my kind of man!

10. What's your favorite comfort food, and why?

My mom's chicken soup with rice.  You add a mixture of soy sauce, chopped green onion and red pepper flakes to it-- yummy!  It's my fav because it is always good whether you are sick or well...it really is never bad on your stomach.

The Peace of God

Many of us are getting ready for a new school year.  I don't know about ya'll, but it seems whenever there is something new tossed into the equation (like a new curriculum or a new baby or, in my case, both!) I tend to worry and get a little stressed.  So here is something on which to meditate:

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I love my in-laws!

You grow up hearing such terrible jokes about terrible in-laws.  But I am SO BLESSED with two of the greatest in-laws ever.  They are always so sweet, kind, thoughtful and very supportive of mine and dh's marriage and homeschooling.  They love the kids and actually play with them when they come to visit.

I was reminded of this today when my in-laws e-mailed me inviting my 2 older boys to come visit for a few days next week.  They are quite perceptive to notice that it's been crazy around my house for the past few weeks.  Dh has been working a ton (almost 3 weeks straight), plus the baby is just being a baby (a cute crawling one at that!) and I've been a little stressed with different things-- one being getting things organized for starting school again.  So now I feel a little lighter in my step (too bad it's not literal!)  and a little more energized.  Things haven't been bad enough to actually ask for help, but if someone offers...

So mom and dad, if you are reading this, THANK YOU!
